You should not do certain things while you are staying in a hotel. Some are not good for hygiene, others can lead to unexpected expenses, while some are simply disrespectful of the hotel staff.

These are the top 10 ways you can ruin your hotel room, regardless of the reason.

Avoid these items and you’ll never find yourself in an unpleasant situation.

It’s hard to ruin a vacation like being kicked out of your hotel room or being charged more for something you don’t need. Sometimes, you don’t realize that you are wrong.

You might grab the bag of chips they offer and then regret it. Continue reading to learn more about the top 10 ways you can ruin your hotel room.

1. DO NOT Touch the Mini-Bar

If your mini-bar is not included in your hotel nightly rate or you don’t mind spending a lot on expensive food and drinks, then do not touch it! Mini-bars are usually included in all-inclusive hotel rooms.

You can get drinks and snacks free of charge! You might be tempted to look inside, but I understand. You might have to resist, though. Many mini-bars are equipped with sensors that detect movement or touch.

If you’re not careful, this could lead to you paying a steep price in the long term. Keep your mini-fridge hidden away from children if possible. To resist the temptation to open it, you can place your bags or suitcases in front of it.

You should also bring plenty of your favorite snacks so that if they get tempted, you’re already prepared. This is 2 hotel employees hear all the time. I’m going to make another mini-bar error.

Don’t attempt to replenish the mini-bar with items that you purchased from the store. They’ll know. Order room service if you’re really hungry. Or, just buy a candy bar.

This is only one of 10 ways you can ruin your hotel room.

2. Don’t keep your hotel key by your phone

How many times have your keys been denied when you tried to enter your hotel room? It’s annoying, right?

It turns out that your key card can be deactivated by your phone, thanks to scientific reasoning beyond my comprehension. It’s annoying! Older key cards can also be deactivated if they become worn out.

To avoid the hassle of returning to the front desk for a new card, keep your key card separate from your cell phone. Keep your key safe in your hotel room.

You can keep it in a drawer or in your purse. It is important to immediately take your key with you when you enter your hotel room.

You may be asked to use your hotel room key card to turn on the lights. This is very useful as you will always remember where it is.

3. DON’T Expect Upgrades If…

If you booked through a third-party booking site such as Hotwire or Expedia, then asking for an upgrade is another top 10 DO NOT in a hotel room.

These 3rd-party booking sites are fantastic and where I make all my hotel reservations. This secret hotel booking tool has helped us save a lot of money.

Check out these hot rates hotels! Hotel employees will be able to see the source and price of your hotel booking. You won’t get an upgrade if you spend less than $100 for a nice hotel room.

Although they might try to upgrade you for free, or maybe give them a tip as an incentive, don’t let your expectations get too high.

Book directly with the hotel’s website if you want to upgrade. If you don’t want to pay a high price, it is worth it!

4. Don’t take what’s not yours!

Although this may seem obvious, you’d be amazed at how many people attempt to take items from their hotel rooms.

Don’t take towels, sheets, robes, or pillows from the hotel room. I’m not sure. It’s possible someone has done it.

You could be fined if you take anything else, provided it is within reason. Although towels and robes are nice and soft, think about the number of people who have used them.

Is it really worth the effort to bring it home? The hotels will be happy that you enjoyed their products.

If you are really interested in purchasing one, they can provide information about how to do it. You can also remember the items you loved as a treat while on vacation.

They wouldn’t be so special if you had them every single day. !

5. Don’t Use WiFi in the Wrong Way

The hotel WiFi is an excellent feature, especially for international travelers. But, using WiFi incorrectly is one of the 10 top DON’Ts in a hotel room.

You can use the WiFi public in a hotel room to upload your vacation photos, browse the Twitter news, and check out Google Maps for the area.

However, WiFi should not be used to transmit sensitive or personal information. This includes sending money and banking online.

Anything you don’t want the public to know (social security numbers, credit card numbers, etc. It’s not worth displaying on your screen.

Why? Hackers love public WiFi and hotels are a great spot. Hackers can easily gain access to your data and steal it.

If you are going to conduct sensitive matters online, it is best to be cautious. If you have to do these things, use your personal data plan.

If you have to use a laptop, you can always access a hot spot from your phone. If you have to, consider an international data plan. You could also consider a good VPN.

6. DO NOT Touch the Remote…

The TV remote is one of the germiest and grossest parts of a hotel room. This is understandable when you consider how many people touch the remote and how little it gets cleaned.

I advise you to keep the remote safe from others until you have sanitized it or covered it. To avoid getting sick, make sure to thoroughly clean this item.

Before you use the remote, give it a thorough cleaning. You can store the remote in a ziplock bag or hair cap in the bathroom if you forget the wipes.

If you don’t have anything else, you can always use the bag in the ice bucket. You can also try to not use the TV at any time.

If you’re on vacation, perhaps try to find something new instead of the same old shows.

7. DO NOT LEAVE FOOD TRAYS IN

Although it might seem rude or unnatural, guests are expected to place empty dishes and trays outside their hotel rooms.

Your dirty dishes can be left outside your hotel room door after you have finished eating. You should think about this:

If you leave dishes in your room, nobody will notice and your room could smell for hours. For faster pick up, you might also want to notify the reception that your trays have been left by the door.

Because it is unattractive, the hotel staff will ask you to take your dishes out of the hallway as quickly as possible.

You don’t have to do this if you feel embarrassed. Your hotel staff will be grateful!

8. Don’t put your suitcase on the bed

This is another way to ruin your hotel room that most people don’t consider. Many people simply walk into a hotel room and dump all their stuff onto the bed.

This is a huge mistake. Learn about what to do right away after you enter your hotel room. Once you have done all these things, don’t place your suitcase on the mattress.

Now think about all the dirt and grime your suitcase has been on at airports, as well as all the buses and parking lots. You can place your bag on the floor or on a sofa/chair in the hotel room.

You will find many hotel rooms that have folding stands to hold your suitcases. If you don’t see them, they are often in the closet.

You can place them on top of your desk or dresser if there isn’t one in your room. If you don’t inspect your room for bed bugs, they could easily get into your suitcase and travel with you.

That would be a terrible souvenir.

9. DON’T take a bath

It’s understandable if you have kids. It’s so disgusting! It’s impossible to know if the bathtub has been cleaned properly, so now you are going to soak in other peoples’ hairs, skin cells, and harsh cleaning chemicals. Gross.

This one, though I may be a germaphobe. Considering the large number of people who use hotel showers, they are basically public showers. Would you want to take a shower in a public bathroom?

You should rinse the tub after you take a bath. To wipe the tub’s sides and bottom, use a damp cloth. Use disinfectant wipes to wipe the tub if you have them.

If you don’t have any disinfectant wipes, use soap and water to clean the tub. Hot tubs are a common feature in hotels, so make sure to use them! They aren’t always clean, but they are relaxing.

10. Don’t Use Throw Pillows

We’ve already talked about the worst places in your hotel room, including the pillowcases. Think about how disgusting pillows would be without covers!

It’s easy to imagine that they don’t get cleaned often. After all, how can you clean throw pillows? You can only imagine how often you clean your throw pillows, which is probably not very often. Hotels won’t do that.

You can save your body germs by moving the throw pillows to a different area of the room.

You can either use a disinfectant spray or place your pillowcase on top of them if you have to use them.

If you need extra pillows, ask at the front desk. Check your closet for extra sheets or pillowcases.
