To make your home fresh and smell great, the first thing to do is get rid of any bad odors.
We don’t want to just mask existing odors. Sometimes, a little “house deodorizing” is necessary.
These are some ways to get rid of bad odors in your home.
1. Regularly empty your garbage cans
You need to identify the source of household odors. Your trash might be the source of some unpleasant odors.
It can quickly turn from being fine to becoming very unpleasant.
If you notice an odor, make sure to change the can liners in your bathroom and kitchen every few days.
These trash bags offer antimicrobial protection and can neutralize odors.
2. Clean out your fridge
Another culprit is your fridge. You can go through your fridge once a week, and throw out any items that have reached their end of life.
To absorb odors, you can put an open container of baking soda in your fridge.
Keep one of these funny Chilly Mama deodorizers in the fridge to combat bad smells.
3. Before vacuuming, sprinkle baking soda
Mix baking soda with essential oil drops in an empty bowl. Sprinkle the mixture on your carpet or rug to deodorize it.
Allow it to sit for as long as you like to absorb the odors.
4. Open your windows
If it isn’t too cold, opening the windows can help to freshen the air inside your home. Even if it’s only for a few minutes!
This is a great way to get rid of cooking odors and any other persistent or stale odors.
5. Use your Crock-Pot
Did you know you can use your slow cooker for removing odors from your home?
Here’s how:
- You can add water to your slow cooker. A small one is best, but any size will work.
- Mix 3 to 4 tablespoons of baking soda.
- Your slow cooker can be turned on to Low
- You can leave the lid off and let the concoction do its magic.
6. Get an air purifier
An air purifier is a great way to keep your home fresh and smelling good all the time.
It not only eliminates household odors but also reduces dust or pollen.
7. Make a pet deodorizer
Pet owners know that pets have their own unique smells.
This natural pet deodorizer is a great way to keep your home smelling nice with pets.
- In a spray bottle, mix 2 tablespoons baking soda with 2 cups distilled water and 8-12 drops of pet-safe essential oils.
- Spray it directly on your pet or in their bedding to neutralize unpleasant odors
Not all essential oils are safe for pets. Check with your veterinarian before using them.
You should also brush your pet frequently, as well as vacuum their carpets and furniture. You should also use an odor and stain eliminator if your pet poops or urinates in the house.
8. Eliminate musty towel odors
Moldy towel smells are one of the persistent odors that can cause your home to lose its freshness. This is a simple trick to get rid of the gross, mildewy smell from towels.
Warm water and a tablespoon of vinegar can be used if you soak the towels overnight. They can be laid in the tub or washed in the washer.
The next day, wash them as usual, and voila! There will be no more musty odor.
9. Freshen up your shoes
Your shoes may be contributing to the unpleasant odor in your house, but you might not realize it.
Shoe-Pourri can be used to clean the insides of shoes. Spray some dry shampoo inside your shoes to absorb any funkiness.
10. Use drain cleaner
Another contributing factor to your home’s smell is the drains. My favorite way to clean out our kitchen drains is with glisten foaming cleaner.
