It can become a bit boring if you don’t change things up every now or then.

It is easy to get really bored of looking at the same old decor every day.

There are many ways to improve your home without spending too much.

You can make your home more comfortable even without spending much. The best part?

These ideas don’t require complicated DIY projects. These home improvements are affordable.

1. Declutter your surfaces

All the flat spaces in our homes are magnets for clutter.

It will make your home look so much better if you clean up and tidy up the surfaces.

These are common surfaces that can get cluttered.

  • Kitchen islands and countertops
  • Bathroom counter
  • Bedroom nightstand and dresser
  • Refrigerator (sides & top)
  • Table for entry
  • Dining room table

You’ll be amazed at how clean your room looks when you clear out these areas or tidy them up.

2. Change some pictures

You can change the photos in your frames to make things interesting.

You can take out some old family photos and replace them with current photos of your happy memories with your friends and family.

It’s fun to swap out the frames with seasonally-appropriate pictures (ie. Summer vacation photos in the summer, holiday pictures in December, etc.

You can also search online for free printable decor that you can frame.

Pinterest is a wonderful place to find beautiful printables for free.

3. Rearrange your furniture

Rearranging your furniture is another way to make your home look better without spending a lot of money.

You can instantly refresh your bedroom or living room by moving the large furniture around.

You just need to plan and have a tape measure.

4. Let the light in

Make it a point of opening the curtains, blinds, or front doors if your home feels dark or dingy.

Include it in your morning routine. Sunlight can lift your mood and regulate your internal clock.

5. Store loose items

You don’t have to go to the Container Store to find stuff to organize your house.

You can find glass containers, baskets, and boxes that you can use for loose items.

Your space can look chaotic if you have random items around!

These are some ideas for organizing:

  • Open snacks and pantry staples can be stored in glass jars.
  • Use twine or bread bag fasteners to tie your cords. You can keep the ones that you don’t use in a basket or drawer out of sight.
  • Use little boxes to organize your drawers (e.g. Shoebox bottoms for organizing socks
  • Jars can be used to store Q-tips and cotton balls, writing tools, office supplies, and other craft supplies.
  • You can keep remote controls in a box, basket, or drawer.

Rethink the idea of throwing away your containers and packaging. There are many ways you can reuse them.

6. Bring something new

Fresh flowers can make a big difference in the ambiance of your bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom.

To put in a glass jar or vase, cut some greens or flowers from your yard.

A store like Aldi may also sell inexpensive bouquets. Or you could buy houseplants to live in your home.

They purify the air too!

7. Change the decor from room to room

Repurpose and reuse your existing decor to improve your home’s appearance without breaking the bank.

You can give life to the little decorations in your bedroom by putting them in the living room. You can also reverse the process.

Think about how things are arranged on shelves or tables.

Rethink what you consider decor. For example, books with the same binding color can be stacked to create decor.

You’ll notice your space more when you move things around.

8. Add scent

The way your home smells can have a huge impact on how you feel.

Most likely, you have a wax melt lamp, scented candle, or essential oil diffuser, which you forget to use.

Start it up and smell how wonderful your home is now!

A simmer pot can also be put on the stove while it has cinnamon sticks, vanilla, and citrus peels.

9. Daily tidy up

Simple daily cleaning can help you take back control of your house.

You don’t have to spend every Saturday cleaning your house. Instead, try doing a little each day.

These are some suggestions for your daily cleaning ritual:

  • Make your bed
  • Make sure to do the dishes
  • Sort the mail
  • Do a bit of laundry
  • Get rid of out-of-place objects
  • Clean the counters
  • One major cleaning task (e.g. Dust, vacuum, sweep the floors, etc.

10. Cute throw pillows

New throw pillows can refresh your sofa or bed.

You can also get some cute throw-pillow covers so you can reuse your pillows.

This upgrade is inexpensive and makes a huge impact.

11. Paint

Paint can transform a room’s appearance for as little as $50

It is actually easier than you might think!

I have repainted every room in our house, and it took me only a few hours.

Spray paint can be used to give small things a small facelift.

Spray paint can be used on the following items:

  • End tables and small furniture pieces
  • Metal cabinets
  • Mailbox
  • Faucet
  • Doorknobs
  • Vases and pots for plants
  • Patio furniture
  • Curtain rods
  • Floor vent covers
  • Covers for electrical outlets
  • Pinecones and tree branches
  • Wicker baskets
  • Trash cans
  • Hardware

Hint: Spray paints in black, gold, or white can make items look expensive and new again!

12. Shower curtain

You can transform the look of your bathroom by changing the shower curtain.

13. Seasonal decor

You can display seasonal decorations throughout the year. It’s a good idea to use seasonal decor that can be used interchangeably so you wouldn’t need to keep large decoration bins.

14. Change hardware

For a quick facelift, swap out the drawer or cabinet pulls in your bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.

I ordered large sets of matching cabinet handles when we renovated our kitchen.

This was MUCH more affordable than buying them separately at a hardware store.
